Beauty as Duty
The MFA always brings in some great fashion exhibits (Avedon, Scaasi), so it’s no surprise that this Beauty as Duty exhibit sounds so intriguing. With America (hopefully) ending two wars, it’s fascinating to see a time when civilians were asked to give up so much for the war effort…remember the story of women painting a line up the back of their legs to give the illusion of wearing hosiery (silk and nylon were commandeered by the government for defense needs)?
