TBF Picks - Oscars 2012 Best Dressed
I admit it. I have not seen ANY of the movies that were nominated for Best Picture last night. Not one! But that didn’t stop me from enjoying the looks on the red carpet at the 2012 Academy Awards. Here are my selections for Best Dressed, in no particular order, except for number one…
1) Gweneth Paltrow wearing Tom Ford - She wins the red carpet. Everyone else can just put on a plain black dress and take their seats. It may sound contradictory to say she took a risk while staying simple, but this look is chic, sophisticated, youthful and…likely comfortable! It’s February, after all!
2) Tina Fey wearing Carolina Herrera - This would have been boring in black. But in midnight blue, this dress prompted Tim Gunn to say “From T shirts and fanny packs to custom Carolina Herrera…” Indeed.
3) Louise Roe wearing Black Halo - I have no idea who Louise Roe is. She apparently did some red carpet reporting. Did anyone report on her? Her dress veered towards dangerous territory (Pink? Ruffles? Are those…shoulder pads??) and still managed to look unique and elegant. The belt and clutch are even better upon inspection.
4) Octavia Spencer wearing Tadashi Shoji - Yes. This dress has just the right amount of sparkle, just the right amount of draping, just the right amount of train… she looks like the proverbial million bucks. I think I actually gasped when I first saw her on the red carpet.
5) Jessica Chastain wearing Alexander McQueen - Glamour, glamour, glamour. I would love to see this dress up close!
6) Milla Jovovitch wearing Elie Saab - Starlets: Tempted to put something on your shoulder? A ton of beading? A giant bow? No. This, ladies, is how you do a bold shoulder. And it’s nice to see the red lip!
7) Meryl Streep wearing Marchesa - Who else can pull off gold lame besides la Streep? I will say no more.
8) Miss Piggy wearing Zac Posen - How much fun must Mr. Posen have had while making this dress? And it’s beautiful! I even like her bouffant hairdo.
9) Maria Menounos wearing Maria Lucia Hohan - Color! Yes! She pulls this off so nicely - proof that pretty always works.
